Metro: 3 shot, one killed near Nellis and Vegas Valley

Metro Police investigated a shooting Monday evening. Officers said around 6:55 p.m. they received several calls about four to 10 shots fired in the Silverwood Apartment complex located at 3050 S. Nellis Blvd.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found three people with gunshot wounds. One of the injuries was minor, police said.

The victims were taken to Sunrise Trauma. One person was pronounced dead at the hospital.

No word on the suspects.

Stabbing caps off deadly Friday

For first responders anywhere in the world, there is no such thing as normal days because as a first responder, every day can be hectic in its own way. Especially a day like Friday the 13th.

We're not saying we're superstitious, but May 13 has been a pretty sad and crazy day for the Las Vegas valley. Between fires, accidents, and acts of violence, it's safe to say Friday has been a trying day for first responders.

It all started around 4 a.m. when flames burned through an apartment complex near Rainbow and Charleston. Las Vegas Fire and Rescue said Shirlena Rutherford intentionally started the fire.

Neighbors say they heard a domestic dispute fright before they saw the flames.

Motorcycloist hurt in crash, intersection of Warm Springs, Eastern closed

A serious crash closed the eastbound lanes of Warm Springs Road at Eastern Avenue Tuesday.

According to Metro Police, a truck and a motorcycle collided at the intersection of Warm Springs Road and Tomiyasu Lane.

It happened around 3:13 p.m. The rider was taken to University Medical Center. His condition is unknown at this time.

215 near McCarran Airport to close for roadwork

Lane restrictions are in place near 215 and the Airport Connector. Officials are preparing for serious traffic while they work on the next phase of the Airport Connector Project.

Those who don't heed the warning are going to find themselves sitting in traffic or rerouted from the highway.

Significant lane restrictions took effect Friday night, and this will impact drivers well into Saturday.

Construction crews are installing a bridge pier foundation in the highway median. At 3 a.m. Saturday, 215 near Warm Springs Road will be completely shut down to all traffic.

This is a high-volume traffic area because of its proximity to McCarran International Airport. Drivers are encouraged to avoid this part of the 215 entirely.

Drivers going west on 215 should consider Windmill Lane or Warm Springs Road as alternate routes. Eastbound drivers should consider taking the exits at Jones Boulevard, Decatur Boulevard or Las Vegas Boulevard... Read More

UNLV law professor nominated for federal judge in Nevada

A University of Nevada, Las Vegas, law professor has been nominated by President Barack Obama for a judgeship on the U.S. District Court in Nevada.

The White House said Thursday that the Senate is being asked to approve Anne Rachel Traum. Democratic U.S. Sen. Harry Reid says he recommended Traum for the nomination.

Traum would replace Judge Robert Clive Jones, who recently shifted to senior status on the Reno bench. Traum is currently on leave from the William S. Boyd School of Law, while serving as special counsel in the U.S. Justice Department Office for Access to Justice.

Thunderstorms rolled through Las Vegas valley Thursday evening

Dark clouds filled the Las Vegas valley skies and dumped heavy rains early Thursday evening.

The thunderstorms showers, lightning, and hail in some areas rolled through just before 5:30 p.m. The storm started in the north and northwest before moving south.

Multiple lightning strikes were seen around Whitney Ranch. 8 News NOW received reports of pea-sized hail along Whitney Ranch and Warm Springs.

In the southern part of the valley, the rain came down around St. Rose Parkway. A flood advisory was issued for southwestern Clark County. It will be in effect until 7:15 p.m.

The rain pounded the area for a little over an hour before drying out. At the end of the showers, two rainbows could be seen in certain parts of the valley... Read More
