LAS VEGAS -- Unfortunately, Thanksgiving is a time of year when serious fires can occur. Thanksgiving Day tops the charts as one of the peak days for home cooking fires.

Cooking is the leading cause of fires and fire related injuries both in Las Vegas and across the country. Deep fryer fires result in more than $15 million in property damage each year in the United States, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Cooking fires are easily preventable. Thanksgiving Travel Survival Tips

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel days at McCarran International Airport.

LAS VEGAS -- Thousands of travelers will pass through McCarran International Airport over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. 

Much of the traffic at McCarran will be locals heading out of town. McCarran International Airport is expected to be one of the busiest airports in the country.

Airport officials already report that Terminal 1's long-term parking garage is full. They are advising travelers to go to the Economy Lot. Allow extra time for the shuttle ride to the terminal.

If you are checking bags, you are advised to arrive at least 90 minutes before your flight. Be sure to know whether you are leaving from Terminal 1 or Terminal 3. You can plan your journey at McCarran.com.
