Tickets for the event in which Vice-President Joe Biden will speak to raise awareness about sexual assault will be open and free to the public, according to the White House.

It was announced last week that VP Biden and Lady Gaga would hold a rally at UNLV. The event will be part of the national, 'It's On Us Week of Action.' Students around the country have been hosting events on their campuses to engage college students and all members of campus communities in preventing sexual assault and supporting survivors of sexual assault.

In addition to the Las Vegas rally, Biden is holding events at universities in Pennsylvania and Colorado.

Biden received a standing ovation when he introduced Gaga, who performed her Oscar-nominated song, "Til It Happens to You," which is about sexual assault on campuses, at the Academy Awards in February... Read More

Rough ride for UNLV Runnin' Rebels program

The coaching change was not the only upheaval at UNLV Monday.

The Runnin' Rebels top player Steven Zimmerman announced he is leaving the program.

The new coach is taking over a once storied program that hasn't finished in the top 20 since 2007. That's unacceptable according to critics who say there's no reason UNLV can't be the dominate team it once was. It's been 26 years since UNLV basketball reached its peak.

In 1990, Jerry Tarkanian made the Runnin' Rebels famous by winning the national championship. The team played an up tempo, exciting brand of ball and the UNLV brand was born.

Ever since then, UNLV has been winning -- just not as much.

During "Tark the Shark's" last three years, the team won 95 games and lost only eight.

Since then, the Rebels have lost a total of of 278 games while winning 483.

"I knew there would be some down years after Tark, but I was hoping it would never get low, low," said former player Robert Smith... Read More

Las Vegas Sands lays out plan for $1.3B NFL-grade stadium

Las Vegas Sands casino executives say they're serious about trying to build a $1.3 billion stadium at UNLV and attract an NFL team there.

Proponents of the stadium laid out their case for building a 65,000-seat venue at a Thursday meeting of the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee. Economic analysts said the project could generate $46 million in new tax revenue each year even if no NFL team came to Las Vegas.

Company executives said they want public financing to supplement their private investment, but they declined to give a specific proposal on how much. A preliminary report proposed $780 million come from public sources.

Critics are concerned that the project would divert hotel room tax dollars away from an ongoing effort to expand the Las Vegas Convention Center... Read More
