Metro explains how it keeps up with the caseload of so many crashes

Within a 24-hour period, four people were killed on Las Vegas valley roads in four separate crashes.

The latest incident involved a pedestrian who was killed near the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Boulder Highway. It happened around 10 p.m. Tuesday night.

But just two hours earlier, a motorcyclist died after crashing with a car near Blue Diamond Road and S. Decatur Boulevard. Tuesday afternoon an 81-year-old driver died after crashing with another car near Rancho Drive and Torrey Pines Road and in the morning a driver died after crashing into a pole near N. Decatur Boulevard and Elkhorn Road.

The potential for crashes goes up significantly during rush hour traffic. This year alone Metro Police says its investigated 232 deadly and critical injury crashes... Read More

NDOC: Inmate escaped custody from Pioche Conservation Camp

The Nevada Department of Corrections says an inmate has escaped from custody.

According to the NDOC, 37-year-old Jeremy Bryson walked away from the Pioche Conservation Camp Tuesday evening around 5:29 p.m.

The camp is a minimum custody facility located in Pioche, NV nearly three hours north of Las Vegas.

Authorities said Bryson has been at the Pioche Conservation Camp since Oct. 21. He was transferred from Clark County where he was arrested for burglary.

Bryson has a medium build, and he is 5 feet 10 inches tall, with blue eyes and brown hair. He is also said to have multiple tattoos.

Authorities believe Bryson may be headed south on Highway 93.

Uber begins operations at McCarran Airport Tuesday

Uber began service at McCarran International Airport Tuesday morning.

Drivers are now allowed to pick up and drop off passengers.

Uber Nevada General Manager Jason Raddison said, "Thanks to the Clark County Department of Aviation, travelers now have the choice of requesting a safe, reliable and affordable Uber ride from McCarran International Airport. We are thrilled to add Las Vegas to the growing list of airports that have embraced ridesharing services like uberX and uberXL."

Regents table discussion of possible change to KUNV

It looks like we'll have to wait a little longer to find out if changes will be on the horizon for the public radio station based out of UNLV.

The Board of Regents decided to table the topic of whether or not it will hand over the operation of KUNV 91.5 FM to Nevada Public Radio.

KUNV 91.5 has been the voice of college radio at UNLV since 1981. Howeve r, NPR, which oversees KNPR, wants to control the student-run station.

Alexis Germany is a student at UNLV. She volunteers as a producer and anchor at KUNV 91.5.

Germany says KUNV gives students a voice, and hands-on journalism experiences long before their internship... Read More

Crash closes lanes at Desert Inn, Seneca

Metro Police's fatal detail is investigating a crash at the intersection of Desert Inn Road and Seneca Drive near Eastern Avenue.

It happened around 5:40 p.m.

Two people were taken to Sunrise Hospital, but their condition is unknown.

Metro is shutting down some lanes. Drivers should choose an alternate route.

Police shooting shatters early morning quiet

Witnesses are talking about the final minutes before police opened fire on a man suspected of stealing a car.

Police shot the man in the French Oaks apartment complex in the 1000 block of Katie Avenue near Maryland Parkway and Twain Avenue. It's about two miles from where they first tried to pull him over around 2 a.m.

Several people were getting ready to go to sleep at nearby Molasky Family Park when it all unfolded.

They say what they heard was scary, but they also say they believe it was justified.

"The tires were squealing, he was going so fast," said Ricky, who asked 8 News NOW not to use his last name.

Screeching tires were followed by police sirens.

"The guy jumped out the car. He jumped out the car while it was still rolling," Ricky said.

Witnesses, just yards away in the park, saw the man jump from his moving car and try to hide in the apartment complex just ahead of the police... Read More
