Two under arrest in shooting, 1 suspect outstanding

LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police are investigating a shooting at an apartment complex near Boulder Highway and Tropicana Avenue.

According to police, the shooting happened at around 6 p.m. Tuesday, when three men fired shots into a woman's apartment. No one in that apartment was hurt, but when her next door neighborhood came outside to investigate what was going on, police say the suspects shot him in the chest. He was taken to Sunrise Hospital in critical condition.

Two suspects have been arrested, and police are looking for a third suspect. Metro's Gang Unit is now investigating.

Murder suspect fails to show up in court, again

LAS VEGAS -- The man accused of killing his grandfather and injuring his father has failed for a second time to appear in court.

Steven Woodard, 43, was set to be arraigned in Las Vegas Justice Court Tuesday morning. After a brief conference with the lawyers, the judge rescheduled Woodard to appear Wednesday, May 21.

According to police, Woodard, an escaped mental patient, slashed his grandfather's throat and attacked and injured his father and another person. Woodard is being held at the Clark County Detention Center.









Strip projects bring opportunities for UNLV grads

LAS VEGAS -- It is a great time to find a job on the Las Vegas Strip, especially for new college graduates, according to an economist at UNLV.

New projects along the boulevard are bringing in big opportunities. The Cromwell is hiring nearly 1,000 new employees and the SLS Las Vegas is already in the process of hiring nearly 3,000 people, many of them locals.

Top resorts are recruiting on college campuses for the first time in years. A representative for timeshare giant Westgate Resorts is looking for new grads who will take a job and look to grow within the company.

"You want to get the students involved. They're graduating, they're coming in, best way to get your foot in the door and move up." the representative said.

For many UNLV seniors, it is time to strike while the iron is hot.

"Definitely a lot more opportunities in Vegas than let's say five years ago," senior Spencer Trapp said.

Man critically hurt in tree-trimming accident

LAS VEGAS  -- A man is in critical condition after he was knocked out of the tree-trimming basket he was in by a truck.

According to Metro Police, the accident happened at around 12:30 p.m. Friday. The victim was trimming trees for Cox Communications in a neighborhood near Sandhill and Russell roads, when a truck ran into his truck, knocking him out of the lift.

He landed on the pavement and suffered critical injuries. He was taken to Sunrise Hospital trauma.

Police: Suspects tried to carjack victim before shooting, killing him

LAS VEGAS - Metro Police arrested two men in connection with a deadly shooting Tuesday morning near Boulder Highway and Tropicana Avenue.

Officers arrested 22-year-old Adrian McClintock and 20-year-old Julio Renteria. Both are facing murder with a deadly weapon charges in connection with the shooting death of Dylan Salazar. McClintock is also charged with a probation violation.

Salazar was found shot to death inside his truck near the Sportsman's Royal Manor weekly apartments on Boulder Highway just before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

According to police, the victim was getting into his truck, when McClintock and Renteria approached him and tried to take his truck, but instead, they shot and killed him then left the scene.






Police: Escaped mental patient sliced his father's neck

LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police arrested the mentally ill man accused of killing his 91-year-old grandfather and attacking his father and his father's roommate.

According to police, officers arrested 43-year-old Steven Woodard Wednesday morning. According to the police, Woodard denied harming anyone and said he heard voices in his head. He stated he was "the devil." Police had been looking for Woodard since Tuesday, when his grandfather was found dead and his father was attacked and seriously injured.

According to the arrest report, Woodward's father, Jerry Woodard, told police Steven Woodard came to his home near Charleston Boulevard and Maryland Parkway Tuesday and accused him of "trying to kill his children." Steven Woodard attacked his father with a box cutter, slashing him across the neck. He is accused of also cutting George Cordova's neck, Jerry Woodard's roommate.



Mental patient suspected in grandfather's death

LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police are looking for an escaped mental patient in connection with a homicide early Tuesday morning.

According to police, officers were called to a home near McLeod Drive and Hacienda Avenue just before 7 a.m. to check on a person. Officers found an elderly man dead inside the home.

During an investigation, police identified the suspect in the homicide as 43-year-old Steven Woodward, who had escaped from psychiatric hospitals in Washington and Oregon. The victim is believed to be Woodward's grandfather.

Detectives believe Woodward also tried to harm his father and his father's roommate at a separate location near Charleston Boulevard and Maryland Parkway.

"Anytime you're dealing with somebody that kills someone with an edged weapon, in such a vicious attack and then goes pre-meditated to kill someone else, that we should all be concerned about the well being of everybody.
