UPDATE: Restaurant shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 injured in Summerlin, suspect remains at large

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Metro police are on the scene of a homicide investigation in the northwest valley, at 10300 West Charleston Boulevard (Charleston near Town Center Drive).

Officers received calls that a shooting had taken place at a local restaurant in a strip mall at 7:49 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

Once police arrived they found two people shot inside the restaurant.

A 40-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 48-year-old female who was an employee at the restaurant was the second victim shot. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police say it appears the incident was a targeted incident.

Officers say the male suspect may have followed the victim inside the restaurant and pulled out a handgun and shot the male victim.

Former UFC fighter arrested, charged with battery after run-in with Caesars security

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Anthony Rocco Martin, a mixed martial arts fighter, was arrested Saturday morning after a Caesars Palace security guard was punched in the throat after trying to trespass Martin from the property.

Martin, 31, faces misdemeanor charges of battery and engaging in lewd/dissolute conduct in a public place.

Martin last fought professionally in June, 2020, and is ranked No. 50 as a welterweight, according to the website tapology.com. He is not ranked by the site rankingmma.com.

Metro police were called to Caesars at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday after security at Caesars took Martin into custody.

Woman yelling 'Let's go Brandon' wheeled off Las Vegas jet bridge, arrested over mask disturbance

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Las Vegas Metro police arrested a woman at McCarran International Airport over the weekend after a disturbance on a plane.

Katrina Alspaugh, of Las Vegas, faces one charge of violating airport rules following the incident Sunday, an arrest report said.

Officers arrived to a gate in Terminal 1 after a call of a woman refusing to wear her mask onboard an Allegiant Air flight, the report said.

The woman, later identified as Alspaugh, had been involved in a prior incident at the security checkpoint, police said. During that incident, Alspaugh reportedly attempted to punch another passenger that pointed out Alspaugh was not wearing her mask, police said.

Police go through garbage pile to find gun in downtown Las Vegas homicide investigation

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Detectives searched through six dumpsters worth of garbage to find a 9mm pistol, bullets and cartridges in the investigation of a Nov. 17 shooting death at Siegel Suites in downtown Las Vegas.

Derick McGruder Jr., 36, remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center, charged with first-degree murder in the death of David Baker. The shooting occurred at about 5:50 p.m. at the apartment complex at Bonanza Road and Las Vegas Boulevard.

Baker was found dead inside an apartment after reports of gunshots, according to a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrest report.

As detectives were conducting a briefing, patrol officers were directed to a man hiding behind several dumpsters. They detained the man and identified him as McGruder.

McGruder had injuries to his hands and what appeared to be blood "covering both his shoes" and spots on his sweatshirt and pants, according to the arrest report... Read More

NEW: COVID-19 cases among lowest in 4 months in Nevada, Clark County

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- The number of new Nevada COVID-19 cases dipped below 600 in data released today -- among the lowest since the summer spike of Delta variant cases took hold.

Clark County case numbers were also low -- 369 out of the state's total of 580 new cases.

The test positivity rate held steady at 7.0% in Clark County, and dropped slightly statewide, from 7.7% to 7.6%.

I-Team: Tony Hsieh's former assistant asks court for $130M+, says late entrepreneur named cousin as power of attorney

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Former Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh’s longtime assistant and friend, Jennifer “Mimi” Pham, has filed several updated creditors’ claims in court, asking a judge to grant her millions as part of contracts with several businesses, according to documents obtained by the I-Team.

Hsieh died in a house fire in November 2020 in Connecticut. He was 46. In December, a judge named his father and brother as special administrators to his estate, since the entrepreneur did not have a will.

Pham’s attorneys filed the amended claims in her name and under the names of three of her businesses.

In court filings, Pham claims Hsieh gave power of attorney to Connie Yeh. Previous reports have indicated Yeh is Hsieh’s cousin. The signed document indicates the power of attorney began in October 2017 and was to expire in 2030... Read More

Man shot dead in Las Vegas alley after confronting 2 men who robbed him after he hit $4,000 jackpot

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- On the first weekend of November, Christopher Masters was lucky, hitting a $4,000 jackpot at a neighborhood bar.

By Tuesday, Nov. 9, he was shot dead in an alley after confronting two men who robbed him after word spread of his big win, according to a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrest report.

Jeremiya Hines, 18, faces a murder charge in the Nov. 9 shooting in the 3700 block of Royal Crest Street, a crime-ridden area near Twain Avenue and University Center Drive. A second suspect has not been arrested yet.

Numerous calls to 911 reported the shooting just before 4 p.m., and several witnesses told police what happened.

One of those witnesses was Masters' friend, Gary Smith, who was with him when he was shot. Smith told detectives about the previous robbery and said the same men showed up at Masters' shed in the alley, demanding more money... Read More
