“Last year’s event proved a huge success with hundreds of residents and their children participating,” said event organizer and Vegas PBS Ready To Learn Coordinator Candace Thompson.  “The 5K and 1 mile walk is a fantastic way to get the word out about the Keeping Kids Fit project, which stresses active play and healthy eating to combat childhood obesity.  We are excited to present the 5K for the second year and anticipate even more families and people of all ages will participate.”

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the 5K Run & 1 Mile Walk will benefit Vegas PBS Keeping Kids Fit, a long-term project that addresses childhood obesity.  To date, more than 7,100 children, parents, caregivers and teachers have participated in over 300 exercise and nutrition workshops hosted by Vegas PBS.  The website to date has generated more than 50,000 views.
