Police looking for man involved in violent carjacking

Metro Police are looking for a man who hit a woman and stole her car.

According to police, the crime happened March 19 near Boulder Highway and Flamingo Road. Police say the man approached the woman in a parking lot, knocked her down and stole the keys to her 2003 green Hyundai Accent.

The man police are looking for is described as a black man between 25 and 30 years old, 6 foot and 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, black T-shirt and blue jeans.

Las Vegas man charged with attempted murder of police officer

A Las Vegas man is facing charges of attempted murder of a police officer after a fight with an Metro Police officer Friday.

According to police, an officer was sent to a Jack in the Box restaurant at Boulder Highway and Russell Road just before 6 a.m. because of a man yelling at the employees.

When the officer arrived, he found the suspect identified by police as Curtis Traupman, 43 of Las Vegas, refusing to leave the restaurant. The officer asked him to leave and he did with the officer following him out.

However, when they got outside, the officer said Traupman became aggressive with him. The officer decided to put the suspect in handcuffs, but instead, Traupman began to fight with the officer. At one point, he was able to knock the officer to the ground and sat on him. Traupman is 6 foot 4 and 240 pounds, while the officer is 5 foot 7 and 160 pounds.

Police Looking for 2 Men Who Robbed Store

Metro Police are looking for two men who robbed a store near Tropicana Avenue and McLeod Drive.

According to police, the men walked into the business just before 11 a.m. March 6. One of the suspects walked behind the counter, pulled out a gun and pointed it at the employee. At the same time, the second man took money from the register.

The men also took merchandise from the business and then fled.

The first suspect is described as a black or mixed race man in his 20s. He is about 5 foot 10 with a thin build. He was wearing a black hoodie with camouflage pants. He was armed with a handgun.

The second suspect is a light-skinned black man in his 20s. He is about 5 foot 10 with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a gray Basic High School hoodie and black pants.

Police Looking for Woman Who Robbed Store, Hit Security Guard

Metro Police are searching for a woman who robbed a business and hit a security officer who tried to stop her.

According to police, the woman was in a store near Maryland Parkway and Tropicana Avenue at around 1:30 p.m., January 21. She put some items in a bag and tried to walk out of the store without paying.

At that point, a security guard approached her. The woman then hit the guard in the face and fled.

The woman is described as a black woman about 45 years old and 5 foot 5. She was wearing a tie-die T-shirt, black pants and a multi-color hair wrap.

Police Looking for Man in Home Invasion Robbery

Metro Police have recovered a car stolen in a home invasion robbery earlier this month.

According to police, the man broke into a home in the southeast part of the Las Vegas valley and detained the woman who was home, while he stole items from her house.

The man then took the woman's mini-van and left the area.

The same man is believed to be involved with other crimes including a burglary, a home robbery and a car theft. He is described as a white man in his 20s or 30s with a tattoo on the back of his neck and glasses.

Judge Isolates Ex-Con in Las Vegas Child Rape Case

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A judge in Las Vegas has ordered jail isolation for a Southern California ex-convict accused of plotting from behind bars to kill a 13-year-old schoolgirl he's accused of abducting and raping at knifepoint.

Prosecutor James Sweetin said Tuesday that 48-year-old Richard Martin Schlacta plotted with another Clark County jail inmate to attack the girl who said Schlacta attacked her Aug. 28.

A Las Vegas judge on Friday ordered Schlacta held in isolation, with no contact with other inmates, no visitors, and no telephone calls or mail. Schlacta is being held on $1 million bail.

Schlacta's attorney, Mace Yampolsky, didn't immediately respond to messages.

Schlacta faces a preliminary hearing Nov. 21 on charges including kidnapping and child sexual assault that could get him life in prison.

Man Arrested in Series of Dumpster Fires

Clark County Fire Investigators have arrested a Las Vegas man in connection with a series of fires that were set Wednesday.

According to fire investigators, 28-year-old Paul Joyner set several dumpster fires and one car fire near Maryland Parkway and Flamingo Road over several hours.

The first fire was reported just before 5:30 a.m. at an apartment complex on Rochelle Avenue near Maryland Parkway. Several more fires were reported in the same area over the next two hours.

After a lull of several hours, more fires were reported starting at 4:30 p.m. The car fire was reported just a few minutes later at a business park along Maryland Parkway just north of the Flamingo Road intersection.

Fire investigators say Joyner set a 2012 Audi convertible on fire. Damage to the car is estimated at about $20,000.

Investigators arrested the suspect at around 5:30 p.m. near a strip mall on Maryland Parkway, while responding to another dumpster fire.
