Chaparral High School

After so many years, Chaparral has never been so close to winning a state championship as they came in the 2012-2013 school year.

Under the coaching of Jay Renneker, they made it to the state finals. Chaparral’s women volleyball team played 38 games in their season. They lost 14 games, but won 24 games. In their league, they played a total of 12 games, winning eight of those games.

The road to the State Championships was a hard journey for Chaparral players. They practiced hard daily and never gave up on their team. The dedication really paid off for them. The players can leave their school thinking about the banner they put up in their school gym. Seeing a recent banner will boost up the students spirit and encourage them to do more, because they know that Chaparral students try hard.

The state qualifying match was Boulder City and Chaparral. Chaparral won in a 3-2 match. Jaeda Allen, Chaparral's star player, made 36 kills total in the match against Boulder City. Winning the match allowed them to go to state. The team was cheered onto their bus by Chaparral's band, cheerleaders, parents, and staff. It boosted the morale of the team and made them very confident that they could win State.

Chaparral played Truckee High in their first State match on Galena High School's campus and won. The following day, they played the championship game against South Tahoe. Unfortunately, Chaparral lost the match, 3-0.

Some say that Chaparral wouldn’t have made it to state without the guidance of Allen. She plans on attending a college and playing volleyball. She not only opened many doors for Chaparral, but opened many for herself.
