UNLV's team of students have arrived in Irvine, California for the Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon 2013.

The students will start constructing their energy-efficient, solar-powered houses at Orange County Great Park Monday. It will take about 10 days for the teams to build the houses.

Teams from universities and colleges around the world are part of the competition, including Czech Technical University and Team Alberta, Canada.

The houses will be compete in 10 contests that will test the house's performance, livability and affordability.

UNLV's home is designed to withstand the harsh conditions of the Mojave Desert but still maintain a low carbon footprint.
