Free Tax Prep Available for Low and Middle-Income Earners

Anyone who earned less than $49,000 in 2010 can receive free tax preparation at two upcoming events sponsored by United Way of Southern Nevada.

With the April 15 IRS tax filing deadline approaching, United Way of Southern Nevada's "Earn It Keep It Save It" collaboration encourages southern Nevadans who earned less than $49,000 last year to take advantage of its free services at two Super Saturday events April 2 and 9.

Both events will take place at Cardenas Market locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The April 2 event will be at 4421 E. Bonanza Road near Lamb Blvd. and Bonanza Road, and the April 9 event will be at 4700 Meadows Lane near Decatur Blvd. and Meadows Lane.

IRS-certified volunteers and community partners will be on site to assist with free tax preparation. United Way’s "Earn It Keep It Save It" collaborative is the largest federal cash assistance program for low-income, working taxpayers and helps to lift more families out of poverty than any other government program. Working taxpayers who earned less than $49,000 in 2010 can take part in free tax preparation services with IRS-certified volunteers at any of the more than 30 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites throughout Clark County. VITA site locations will be open through April 18 for tax filing purposes. Those interested should dial 2-1-1 or visit uwsn.org/EKS for tax site hours and locations.
