Thousands of Visitors Celebrating Mexican Independence in Las Vegas

Thousands of visitors from Mexico started coming to Las Vegas to celebrate Mexican Independence Day holidays. They were met at McCarran International Airport by a mariachi band and showgirls.

According to officials at McCarran, between Wednesday and Friday, 22 additional flights from Mexico will be arriving at the airport. A total of 42 chartered or scheduled commercial flights will be making direct flights, including flights from six cities that normally do not have direct air service to Las Vegas.

The airport says the flights will bring in more than 6,000 visitors, which is up more than 5 percent over last year's Mexican Independence Day holiday. According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, international travelers stay longer and spend an average of $1,146 per trip on non-gaming purchases.
