Police Search for Drunk Drivers During Halloween Weekend

Police agencies from around southern Nevada will be out in force this weekend looking for impaired drivers.

Metro Police will be setting up a Sobriety Checkpoint near Valley View Boulevard and Desert Inn Road. The checkpoint will be from 7 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Saturday. The event is sponsored by a Joining Forces Grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety. The grant will pay for the DUI van to be at the checkpoint. The van allows officers to speed up the processing of DUI cases.

Metro Police will also be conducting a saturation patrol in the area of Desert Inn Road and Paradise Road starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday through 3 a.m. Sunday. There will not be a checkpoint but more officers will be in the area looking for impaired drivers. Metro says from April through September of this year there have been 61 calls for service related to drunk drivers in that area.

Boulder City Police, North Las Vegas Police, Henderson Police and Nevada Highway Patrol will also all be involved with stepped up patrols all around southern Nevada over the weekend.
