LAS VEGAS -- Two people were killed Sunday morning in a multiple vehicle accident in the area of Marlyand Pkwy. and Harmon Ave.

According to Metro, evidence at the scene and witness statements indicate that a 2006 Ford Fusion driven by 28-year-old Jonathan Syverson of Las Vegas, was traveling was on Harmon Ave. at a high rate of speed in the eastbound lanes and failed to stop at the red light at Maryland Pkwy.

The Ford struck a 1996 Dodge Stratus, driven by a 69-year-old man from Las Vegas, which was traveling north on Maryland Pkwy. at Harmon and going through the intersection on a green light.

The Ford struck the Dodge pushing both vehicles across the intersection and onto UNLV property.

Syverson was transported to Sunrise Hospital with moderate to serious injuries and the driver  of the Dodge and a 64-year-old female passenger, also from Las Vegas, were pronounced dead at the scene.  

This is the 58th and 59th Traffic related fatality in Las Vegas Metropolitan Department's jurisdiction in 2011. Maryland Pkwy. was closed in both directions at Harmon Ave. for several hours Sunday morning.
