Victim was Murder Suspect's Ex-Boyfriend
News
LAS VEGAS -- Murder suspect Tracy Kaufmann told Metro Police he shot ex-boyfriend Phillip Wells dozens of times early Monday morning at Wells' workplace.
Kaufmann, 50, told police he traveled from Tennessee to Las Vegas nearly a week ago because he was angry with Wells for having "taken advantage of him." The suspect admitted firing dozens of shots into Wells, beginning at the bar of The Garage, where Wells worked, and continuing into a back room where the victim fled. Kaufmann repeatedly shot Wells while the victim laid on the ground, emptying a magazine, then reloading and continuing to fire at Wells. The victim died at the scene, but no one else was injured.
Kaufmann fled the scene, and dumped the weapon and his clothes in a dumpster at the Motel 6 on Tropicana Avenue where he was staying. He attempted to flee Las Vegas by air, but Metro Police took him into custody at McCarran Airport later Monday morning.
