Big Win Lifts Spirits at UNLV

LAS VEGAS -- The UNLV Runnin' Rebels took down the No. 1 ranked team in the nation Saturday night. The big win against the North Carolina Tarheels has the campus buzzing with excitement. It also has people talking about what it could mean for the future of the Athletic Department.

Students say the vibe on campus was different Monday. Everyone was wearing scarlet and gray and talking about the big game.

"Everyone is in a better mood. It is really cool because usually it is not like that. Spirits are lifted. Everyone is wearing UNLV gear and that never happens," UNLV junior Jaxon Markworth said.

UNLV Senior Athletic Director, D.J. Allen, says their phones have been ringing non-stop.  He says people do not just want one or two tickets. They are asking for season tickets. Allen also says the huge win will certainly help in recruiting and not just players.

"Anything and everything the program does when it gets national attention or exposure, it helps for recruiting. It helps for recruiting players. It helps for recruiting fans," Allen said. "We have plenty of room on board."

Allen says there are still plenty of tickets left for the remaining 13 home games at the Thomas & Mack Center. The Runnin' Rebels next opponent is UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday in Santa Barbara. UNLV is expected to beat the UCSB Gauchos even without the home court advantage.
