Metro Investigating Shooting in East Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police are investigating a shooting that was reported just before 3 p.m. at the Century Village Apartments on Spencer Street near Tropicana Avenue.

Police responded to the complex after a call came in that a man showed up to a friend's apartment with a gunshot wound to the chest. Police now believe the man was shot inside the apartment complex, and it was his roommate who called 911. The man was dead by the time police arrived.

Police are searching for a suspect. Detectives found a shell casing from a large caliber bullet.

"We're canvassing the area like we normally do, hoping to find any witnesses, and processing the scene," Metro Lt. Lew Roberts said.

Neighbor Deidra Hodges says the complex has seen a lot of police activity in the last six months.

"It's very difficult. It's scary. I live in my house and rarely go out. It's very, very unnerving," she said.

Police say they are frequently called to the area for drug and gang-related incidents, but are not confirming drugs or gangs were a factor in this murder.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
