Woman Dead After Being Struck by Truck

LAS VEGAS -- A woman is dead and a man is in critical condition after being struck by a pickup truck early Friday morning while walking in a crosswalk near Boulder Highway and Harmon Avenue.

Around 1:45 a.m., a 1998 Chevrolet S10 pickup was traveling north on Boulder Highway and entered the intersection on a green light. The front of the truck impacted both pedestrians. The 52-year-old woman, who has not yet been identified, and 58-year-old John Salvo Jr. were transported to Sunrise Hospital where the woman was pronounced dead after arrival. Salvo Jr. was admitted with critical injuries.

The 21-year-old driver of the Chevrolet remained at the scene. She was not impaired and is not likely to face charges.

This is the 69th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction in 2011. This collision remains under investigation by Metro Police.

Traffic in the area was shut down for several hours due to the investigation.
