Second shooting victim from home invasion crime spree dies

LAS VEGAS -- The woman who was shot in a home invasion crime spree last month is dead, according to Metro Police.

Terri Ham had been hospitalized since the shooting more than three weeks ago. Her boyfriend told 8 News NOW, she passed away Thursday evening after undergoing 10 surgeries.

"She fought for 23 days," he said.

The crime spree took place on the morning of July 29 and involved a carjacking, home invasions and shootings in a southeast neighborhood. Metro Police shot and killed suspect Cody Winters, 27, and arrested his alleged accomplice, Natasha Jackson, 35.

According to police, Winters and Jackson stole a Nevada Department of Transportation work van and forced its driver to drop them off in a neighborhood near Tropicana and Sandhill avenues. The couple, intent on stealing another vehicle, knocked on the door of a home on Autumn Street. The homeowner Richard Ramos, and his wife got into a struggle with Winters and Jackson. Police say Winters shot and killed Ramos.

Winters eventually made his way to another home where he encountered Ham and her boyfriend. Police said Ham was shot by Winters. Police ended up shooting and killing Winters when he confronted officers outside of the home.

Her boyfriend John, who doesn't want to give his last name, says he can't get the images of that day out of his head.

"I'm in disbelief. I just lost my best friend in the whole world,” Terri's Boyfriend John said. "I want everyone to know this was a very senseless thing that was done."

John says Ham would communicate through head nods and finger movements.

"I could tell after talking to Terri for eight and a half hours that she was scared, I could see the little wrinkles in her forehead, and being with her for 20 years, I know that look, and she was scared,” John added.

John says the shooting shattered what security he used to feel inside his home. There's now emptiness mixed with the bad memories left behind.

Natasha Jackson, Winters alleged accomplice, is facing numerous charges including murder with a deadly weapon.
