UNLV Acting President gives State of University speech

Making UNLV into a respected research institution is what the acting university president said is his main goal in the coming years.

Don Snyder gave his State of the University address Thursday afternoon. He focused on many long term goals like making UNLV a Tier One Carnegie Research School and bringing a medical school to southern Nevada.

Snyder says things like a medical school create other opportunities for revenue and alleviate the pressure on increasing tuition.

"In my 27 years of working with this university, I've never seen anything that will have more impact on the university than the medical school in terms of elevating what the university is but importantly having the university meet the needs of the community," Snyder said.

Snyder said he is also excited about the electric car company Tesla's commitment to battery research at the university.
