LAS VEGAS (AP) -- The dean of the University of Arizona's business school is the new president of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Regents with the Nevada System of Higher Education voted 12-1 Tuesday to hire Len Jessup to be the university's 10th dean.

Jessup will be paid $525,000 a year for five years.

Jessup replaces Don Snyder who has been serving as president during the search.

Former UNLV president Neal Smatresk left in 2013 to lead the University of North Texas.

Jessup was dean of the Washington State University business school and on the faculty of Indiana University before he moved to Arizona and became dean there in 2011.

Board member Cedric Crear voted against Jessup's appointment.

Crear favored candidate and current UNLV provost John Valery White.
