Westgate opens new permanent Elvis exhibit

LAS VEGAS -- A first of its kind permanent Elvis Presley exhibit, the first outside of Graceland, is now open at the Westgate Resort and Casino.

Presley's family helped unveil a new exhibit in his honor Thursday in Las Vegas.

Priscilla and Elvis were married in Las Vegas. She says the exhibit showcases a lot of his private life.

"We know about his music, we know about his films, but here we get to feel the man. The man behind, you know, all the talk and all the buzz about who is Elvis Presley," she said.

Elvis' daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, says having the exhibit at the hotel where her dad performed is special for her.

"Some of the staff still works here and that the building is even here and that we were able to do this has been really, really special. I spent a lot of time growing up here as a child," said Lisa Marie Presley.

Some of his biggest fans waited for hours to get a look at the memorabilia. Theresa Hughes saw Elvis perform at the very same hotel when it was called the International Hotel.

"I got up and ran for the stage when the curtains was coming down," said Hughes.

Hughes said she was stunned to see how much memorabilia was in the exhibit.

"At every turn there's a wow factor," said Kevin Kern, Director of Communications for Graceland. "There's something unique to see whether it's jewelry, a car, or a rare piece of memorabilia such as the shirt he wore in the movie Jailhouse Rock."

There's a telegram Elvis sent to his parents when he received his first paycheck that has a special place in Priscilla Presley's heart.

"It said dear babies, here's some money to pay the bills, please don't tell anybody how much it is. I'll be sending you more. Love Elvis," Priscilla Presley recalls.

She hopes the exhibit not only showcases Elvis' stardom, but the kind of man he was as well.

There's also a new Elvis Experience show opening up at the Westgate in his honor. It's going to showcase many of Elvis' most popular songs.
