Two injured in crash near Mountain Vista and Russell

LAS VEGAS - Two people suffered critical injuries Tuesday morning following an accident near Russell Road and Mountain Vista Street.

Metro Police says the accident occurred shortly before 8:30 a.m. The accident involved several vehicles. Emergency crews transported the two victims to Sunrise Hospital.

Mountain Vista Street was partially closed as police investigated. Police suspect alcohol played a factor in the crash.


Board of Regents approves tuition hike

LAS VEGAS -- The Board of Regents for the Nevada System of Higher Education approved a tuition hike on Friday.

The 7 to 6 vote in favor will increase tuition at Nevada System campuses, including a 17 percent increase at UNLV over four years.

"An increase in tuition is understandable, but you're asking a 17 percent increase over the next four years.

Late actor's art work on permanent display

LAS VEGAS -- Friends and family of Tony Curtis celebrated his life and legacy with a donation of his artwork to the Palm Eastern Mortuary Tuesday.

It is where he was also laid to rest. Back in 1993, the actor painted the "Crescent Bouquet." He developed a passion for painting back in the 1980s and then took it up as a second career in his later years.

The general manager of the Palm Mortuary says they are proud to have the artwork hanging in the mortuary.

“After our remodel of 2013, Jill Curtis-Webber asked us if we would be will to hang one of Tony's artworks in the lobby, and we graciously accepted her offer and we're so proud that we're hanging it here," Glenn Abercrombie said.

Tuesday would have been Curtis' 83rd birthday.

McCarran Airport passenger traffic rises in April

LAS VEGAS - Passenger traffic at McCarran International Airport rose in April, airport officials reported Wednesday.

More than 3.6 million people traveled through the airport last month, an increase of 1.7 percent from last year. More than 13.7 million passengers have passed through McCarran in 2014. That represents an increase of 3 percent from 2013.

Among the airport's leading carriers, Spirit Airlines experienced the largest growth in April with a 24 percent increase in passenger traffic.

Plane lands safely after in-air emergency

LAS VEGAS -- An Allegiant Airlines flight on its way to Peoria, Illinois made an emergency landing in Las Vegas Monday evening.

An indicator light signaling a problem with the nose gear activated, but no actual problem was found, McCarran International Airport officials said. The plane landed safely short after 4 p.m.

UNLV Rebels earn spot in NCAA tournament

LAS VEGAS -- The UNLV Rebels baseball team (35-23) will play UC Irvine (35-22) on Friday at the NCAA Baseball regional for the first time since 2005,  according to UNLVrebels.com.

The Rebels are the No. 2 seed and will go to Corvallis, Oregon to play their first game at 2 p.m. This the team's first at-large bid since 1989 when UNLV was a member of the Big West Conference.

Just feet from the A and B Gates in Terminal One, a bright, red sign leads you to the McCarran Medical Clinic and Pharmacy. This is where people at McCarran can go if they get sick or even need a check-up.

"It's pretty great. It's helpful for all the employees here and for people traveling who get hurt, it's super convenient. They were very helpful and nice and took a lot of time with us," customer Carol Hay said.
