Win Over Aztecs Boosts UNLV in Rankings

Saturday’s stirring win against San Diego State propelled UNLV forward once again in the national rankings.

The Rebels moved three places forward to No. 11 in the Associated Press poll released Monday. In its only game this week, UNLV downed the Aztecs, 65-63, building a big second-half lead before holding on late. The Rebels missed moving into the top 10 by just a handful of votes and they remain undefeated (14-0) at home this season. San Diego State held its ground at No. 13.

In the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll, the Rebels vaulted five spots to No. 11 while San Diego State fell one place to No. 15.

Kentucky and Syracuse remain Nos. 1 and 2 in the Top 25, and Wichita State – against whom the Rebels lost a December road contest – entered the poll for the first time since 2007. Of the Rebels’ four losses, three have come on the road against ranked teams: San Diego State, No. 15 Wisconsin and No. 24 Wichita State.
