Rugby Tournament Draws Record-Breaking Crowds

The organizers of the international rugby tournament held in southern Nevada this past weekend are celebrating record-breaking attendance.

The 2013 USA Sevens Rugby Tournament broke all previous attendance records with a three-day crowd of 67,341 at Sam Boyd Stadium.

USA Sevens had broken records during the 2012 tournament. However, this year's tournament drew even more fans. In fact, the crowd at Saturday's game set a record for the largest crowed to attend a rugby event based in the United States.

“The growth of USA Sevens during our four years in Las Vegas has been impressive, and we could not be more pleased with the support and national pride fans showed during our event this weekend,” said A. Jon Prusmack, owner and CEO of USA Sevens, LLC.

The 16 teams competing in the tournament played 45 rugby matches over three days. Besides the matches, fans also enjoyed concerts and parties through the Las Vegas valley.

There was also a festival at Sam Boyd Stadium that ran along side the games. It featured live entertainment, cuisine from competing nations and carnival activities for young fans.

The South Africa BlitzBokke won the tournament by beating New Zealand in the championship match.
