Paradise Toward Airport to Close Overnight
Paradise Toward Airport to Close Overnight

Overnight closures to complete signage work are planned Tuesday and Wednesday on Paradise Road heading into McCarran Airport and the connector tunnel.

This installation and detour are scheduled to run from midnight through 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1 and Wednesday, Nov. 2. This work was scheduled for overnight hours to minimize its impact on traffic flow.

The Terminal 3 directional sign project under way near Tropicana Avenue and Paradise Road is nearly complete. The job is nearly done, but two overnight road closures will affect all lanes of southbound Paradise immediately south of Tropicana.

During these work periods, all southbound Paradise traffic must use a detour over southbound Maryland Parkway and westbound Russell Road. Drivers can rejoin southbound Paradise at Russell, and then proceed on to the airport or tunnel. Electronic reader boards, fixed signs, police and other measures will be in place to help direct traffic through the detour.

The temporary closures are required so the contractor can use a crane to install three 60-foot-long structural beams across all southbound lanes of Paradise, between Tropicana and Kitty Hawk Way. For safety concerns, traffic cannot pass below these suspended beams until they are firmly secured atop their permanent support structures.

To avoid detours, drivers headed to McCarran during these overnight work periods are encouraged to use the Airport Connector Tunnel by way of the Las Vegas Beltway.

Once these structural beams are in place, the last key element of this T3 signage project will be the installation of another directional sign structure near the two (soon to be three) dedicated right-turn lanes from eastbound Tropicana onto southbound Paradise. The installation of this sign was pushed back a couple of weeks because of delays at the manufacturer, but the contractor is on track to conclude work in the Paradise/Tropicana area in mid-November.

Additional Terminal 3 directional signage will follow near Eastern Avenue and Russell Road, and along the Las Vegas Beltway south of the Airport Connector Tunnel. There will also be upcoming work within the tunnel as McCarran crews replace the life-safety signage that has been in place since the tunnel opened nearly 17 years ago.
