Lanes on Tropicana to be Closed for Drain Repair

Lanes on Tropicana to be Closed for Drain Repair

Damage from torrential rains and a recent fire is forcing the Nevada Department of Transportation to shutdown part of a busy road and repair a drain structure.

NDOT will be closing down the right westbound lane of Tropicana Avenue between Paradise Road and Koval Lane. The closure will be from 9 p.m. Sunday through 5 a.m. Monday, October 22. Three lanes in the westbound direction will stay open while the repairs are finished.

Crews will have to excavate and remove part of the road to rebuild the infrastructure. The drainage channel belongs to Clark County.

FAA Makes Flight Restrictions Deal with Tour Companies

FAA Makes Flight Restrictions Deal with Tour Companies

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- The Federal Aviation Administration is going to restrict air space around Las Vegas from Sunday evening to Wednesday afternoon while President Barack Obama is in town.

An FAA statement issued Friday says eight local Grand Canyon sightseeing tour companies will be able to use nearby Jean Airport during that time. Jean is 25 miles south of the Strip. Several other area airports will be closed to general aviation. Commercial traffic at McCarran International Airport won’t be affected.

Two helicopter air tour companies also will be able to conduct night sightseeing tours out of McCarran.

The president plans a campaign event late Sunday at a Las Vegas high school. He’s scheduled to stay at the Westin Lake Las Vegas to hold debate practice sessions for two additional days before his scheduled debate against Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

Bridge Work Causes Nighttime Closures of Airport Roads

Bridge Work Causes Nighttime Closures of Airport Roads

More bridge work means more road closures near McCarran Airport this week.

Work on a bridge expansion project will require overnight closures of the ramps between the Airport Connector and the I-215 Monday and Wednesday. The closures will be from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. both days.

During the closure, the westbound I-215 ramp to the airport will not be affected and will serve as a detour. Eastbound I-215 traffic bound for the airport will be detoured to the Warm Springs exit and back onto I-215 to use the westbound ramp to the airport tunnel.

Traffic exiting the airport tunnel to westbound I-215 will not be affected. Traffic headed toward eastbound I-215 will be detoured to exit at Hidden Well Road and turn south on Gilespie Street to Warm Springs where vehicles can re-access I-215.

Overhead Clearance Reduced on Part of Robindale Road

Overhead Clearance Reduced on Part of Robindale Road

Cars and trucks using Robindale Road near the I-215 will have less overhead clearance starting Wednesday night.

Beginning around 9 p.m., the overhead clearance for vehicles traveling on Robindale Road under the I-215 will be reduced to 13-feet, 9-inches. Vehicles over or near this height will be directed to follow posted detour routes around this area.

This change will be in place for about six months as part of the bridge widening project that will be adding lanes on I-215.

This is part of the federally funded I-215 Airport Connector project, which started in January and is expected to be complete in January 2014. Bridges over Paradise Road, Warm Springs Road, and Duck Creek also will be expanded as part of the project.

Field Survey Work to Close Lanes on Several Busy Roads

Field Survey Work to Close Lanes on Several Busy Roads

The Clark County Water Reclamation District will be conducting three different field work surveys over the next several weeks all in the same area south of McCarran International Airport.

The field surveys will force lane restrictions on some heavily traveled roads. The first closure will be Tuesday through Friday, September 14. The closures will be on Bermuda Road southbound from Sunset Road to Pilot Road. The road will be down to one lane. The survey will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The second survey will be on Warm Springs Road and Spencer Street, starting September 5 through September 11. Spencer Street southbound from Warm Springs Road just past the intersection will be restricted to one lane. Warm Springs Road eastbound from Tamarus Street to Caliente Street will be restricted to two lanes. The work will be performed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Overnight Closure of Airport Connector Ramps Wednesday

Overnight Closure of Airport Connector Ramps Wednesday

Get ready for another traffic headache tonight in the McCarran airport connector.

Construction of a bridge expansion will require the closure of the ramps between the connector and the I-215 from 7 p.m. Wednesday through 5 a.m. Thursday.

During the closure, northbound traffic will be directed to take posted detours to the Warm Springs Road off-ramp, where traffic will be directed east on Warm Springs and then back to the I-215 heading west to the Airport Connector Tunnel. Southbound drivers will be detoured to exit the Airport Connector at Hidden Wells Road, turn left (south) on Gillespie Street, then left (east) onto Warm Springs, where they can re-enter the eastbound I-215. The tunnel north of I-215 leading into the airport will remain open during this work.
