Photo Gallery | New Transit Center Slated for August Opening
Nevada Senator Harry Reid and Representative Dina Titus joined UNLV and RTC officials Thursday morning to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new public transit center on the university campus.
The facility will be built on the south side of University Road just west of Maryland Parkway. The Centennial Express will serve the transit center, transporting passengers to the Bonneville Transit Center in downtown Las Vegas, where they can connect to other transit routes serving destinations across the valley. The new facility will improve connectivity to public transit at UNLV, as well as within the surrounding community.
The UNLV Transit Center is being built with $3.4 million in federal funding from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Bus and Bus Facilities Livability Initiative Grant. Eighty percent of the project’s total cost was federally funded, with a 20 percent local match. The facility is scheduled to open in August 2013.
