Safety campaign focuses on people using alcohol, marijuana and driving

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Zero Fatalities has launched a new public safety campaign that focuses on driving drunk or high. It's a serious issue in Nevada because more than half of the fatal crashes involve an impaired driver.

It's called "Save Yourself" and wants to get the message out that it's not OK if you drink or use drugs, including marijuana, and then choose to drive.

According to the Andrew Bennett with the Nevada Department of Public Safety, the number one demographic for the fatal crashes involving an impaired driver are males between the ages of 18 to 35.

The message behind the campaign is that it's fine to have a good time but do it responsibly and alway have a designated driver who isn't consuming any alcohol or drugs... Read More

Florida woman discovers nearly $1 billion in her bank account

LARGO, Fla. (WFLA) -- Julia Yonkowski went to her local Chase Bank in Florida over the weekend to withdraw some money, but she wanted to check her balance first.

According to the bank receipt she received in Largo on Saturday, Yonkowski had $999,985,855.94 in her account.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Nevada has made significant progress in COVID-19 efforts, and now, with a new vaccination incentive launching July 8th, the hope is that more shots will be administered this summer.

"To date, more than 50% of the total eligible population of our state has received at least one dose of the covid-19 vaccine," said Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak.

The state of Nevada is just getting started as the amount of pop-up clinics around town seem to increase weekly and now our state is offering a 5-million-dollar incentive in cash and prizes to those that get their shot.

"During 'Vax Nevada Days,' residents who have had at least one shot of the COVID vaccine including those who got their shots months ago, will be automatically entered into a weekly drawing to win cash, post-secondary education savings plans and other prizes," said Governor Sisolak... Read More

Victim suffers life-threatening injuries in 3-vehicle crash, driver arrested for DUI

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — One person is in the hospital tonight and another was arrested following a crash Sunday afternoon.

It happened near the intersection of Harmon Avenue and Koval Lane just after 2:40 p.m.

After the preliminary investigation, police say a U-Haul truck was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Harmon. It then crossed the median into the westbound lanes.

At that time, it collided head-on with a Hyundai Elantra. That forced the Elantra into a Nissan Rogue driving nearby.

The driver of the U-Haul — later identified as 24-year-old Christopher Faifaimalie — was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Police say he also admitted to using drugs before the crash and was booked into CCDC for DUI charges.

The driver of the Elantra — 36-year-old Sruram Vathiyanathan — suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to UMC.

No one else involved was seriously hurt... Read More
